Brownhills: Extension - Cottage Renovation
Modest extension and full house renovation of the old cottage, the extension cantilevers out over aira beck and the extension benefits from so much natural light . A wine cellar takes center stage in the living room floor and the new entrance door has a bespoke slate pillar.
Working with IJ Curry and Son Ltd. has been a pleasure from start-to-finish. Their professional approach and attention to detail have allowed us to create a truly remarkable home, renovating and sympathetically converting a traditional 1640’s Lakeland cottage into a stunning property. They worked closely with us to maintain many of the original features of the property, expertly marrying the historical elements with modern materials and contemporary building methods. In addition, extension of the property added significant space, adding light and ambience to the property, making the most of the unique location next to Aira Beck, within the Lake District National Park.
The Curry’s were a true partner in the project, involved through every aspect of the design and construction, offering advice and support combined with an amazing attention to detail. Despite the challenging location on the edge of the beck, we had complete trust in their ability and dedication to deliver, with nothing too much trouble. The quality of the work and craftsmanship has left us with a unique cottage in a magnificent setting.
There are many beautiful features in the property, but the highlight of the project from our perspective was the installation of a 2.75m spiral wine cellar. This bespoke feature, located in the floor of the new extension, provided numerous technical and aesthetic challenges, but the dedication and determination of the team has left us with a stunning and practical centrepiece. One other feature that I would like to mention is a natural slate pillar to the front elevation, this shows magnificent craftmanship and gets many positive comments from both residents and visitors alike, and was a unique element added by Ian, Nicky and team.
In summary, we could not be happier with the quality of workmanship and partnership shown by the whole team at IJ Curry & Son. It has been a wonderful experience and a highly satisfying project to deliver, and I would fully support and endorse this application.
