Word of mouth referrals mean a lot to us, here's what our clients have to say.
We are delighted to support I & J Curry’s application. There are several reasons for this: 1. The overall management of the project was exemplary, especially given the difficult time of Covid-19. Throughout the project they were careful to explain issues which came up and to seek our input on an ongoing and timely way. In their approach they avoided "unpleasant surprises". The money side of things was dealt with in an open and clear manner. 2. The quality of the overall build is evidently exceptional; not just in the parts that external observer can see with high standards of workmanship and materials but also in dealing with difficult terrain, the provision of complicated services etc. Numerous specialist suppliers (eg the kitchen fitters, IT consultants and security alarm firm) commented very positively on the work. 4. Throughout the project they were cheerful, professional and courteous and this included their own team and their contractors.
All in all we would have no hesitation in recommending I & J Curry and are happy to provide further information.

We had our house adapted and extended by I J Curry almost 4 years ago and they were absolutely amazing, the workmanship, advice, service and loyalty were second to none. So much so that we wanted them to come back last year to do the final stage of our house.......... the hydro pool. This to most is a luxury, to us this gives us the chance to swim as a family. Our daughter is terminally ill and cannot swim in any public pool due to her condition, so Ian Curry has helped us make our dream a reality. On her 9th birthday we were able to swim as a family for the first time and it was beyond what words can describe, it was breathtaking!!! All their hard work and effort that went beyond the normal run of the mill building, had paid off massively. We will treasure those moments forever. We can't thank each and everyone of them enough they go over and above to reach the goal set, their loyalty is something we won't forget and we thank them for giving us the chance to make every day count, not count every day!!!!!!
Bank House was a complex and thorough renovation job converting a former hotel annexe overlooking Ullswater into a good quality residence involving stripping out everything back to basics and extension works. I J Curry & son Ltd was recommended to us as a firm that could handle such a project and we were glad we took up the recommendation. As with any project of such a scale there were unexpected problems all of which were overcome. We were pleased that Ian Curry was a “can do” man rather than a “not my job” man. Inevitably costs went above our initial estimates, but we kept full records of all costs and how they arose and at the end of the day, no contractor or subcontractor charged too much for what they did and the cost was fair value for money. Ian took on the responsibility of coordinating all subcontractors and this meant that on the whole people were in the right place at the right time to do their respective bits, which saved uneccesary delay.
So in summary we were fully satisfied with the end result that lived up to our expectations.
John Temple : Project Bank House: Renovation
Working with the Curry family and team has been a real pleasure. Hardworking, professional builders for whom nothing was too much trouble whatever the day of the week or time. Deadlines were met and the work quality superb. What more could a client want… and good fun as well.
John Taylor - Project Manager : Project Sharrow Bay: Renovation
We couldn’t have been more pleased with our building project. We were told when we bought our house in Glenridding that Ian Curry and his son Nick were the best builders in the area and how right this was.
Our garage, with accommodation above, is a perfect match with the house which, with the random stonework and slate roof, was no mean feat. The attention to detail in the planning stage ensured that the building work was on time and on budget.
All the subcontractors used on the project had worked with Ian for many years and were highly skilled and were a pleasure to have on site. When we asked for one or two small alterations it was never a problem.
Would we use Ian Curry again, most definitely, they are first class family business.
Richard and Anita Bottomley : Project Old Oak : Extension
IJ Curry & Son have been involved with us for a period of more than 12 years as we have totally restored, renovated modernised our home. The original Grade II* house was built in 1683 and was in bad disrepair. In addition, the second part of the farm, which was built in the early 1800’s, was collapsing and unusable and the mill barn, which, again was built in the early 1800’s, while sound was not in use for anything other than storage.
We would strongly recommend IJ Curry & Son for any major significant building restoration. It is rare indeed to find a building firm who believes in perfection and quality and who are able to successfully modernise, yet be highly sympathetic to a building’s heritage. The firm employs a number of craftsmen and have commercial relationships with like-minded sub-contractors. The result is a seamless and consistent high quality of work throughout the end-to-end process of renovation and modernisation. The craftsmen's attention to detail is significant with carpentry, plastering, roofing, etc and they use materials of the highest quality, consistent with the heritage of the original buildings; e.g. the use of oak in beams, flooring, cupboard building. Their insistence of working with their sub contractors as a collective team ensures a seamless relationship for the customer. All of their employees take pride in their work and go the extra mile to ensure quality of workmanship. All of them are able to work solutions on difficult issues giving us options on these issues.
The end result of this is that we now have a home that is both beautiful and reflective of its heritage and environment in which it stands and IJ Curry & Son have given another 300+ years life to this important heritage building.

Quite simply the very best builder you could ever hope for. Contentious, polite and always willing to go that extra mile Ian and his team have made our dream house a reality. A true craftsman who produces results on time and to an exceptional finish, I would not hesitate to unreservedly recommend him.
Our overall experience of working with I J Curry was superb. From the outset they understood what we were trying to achieve and Ian and his team were a pleasure to work with. The quality of all aspects of their building work was excellent and Ian's knowledge, support and advice throughout the project was invaluable. We would thoroughly recommend using their services.
- Mr & Mrs J, Cumbria
Ian spent 18mths converting a barn attached to our grade 2 listed building. His open, friendly approachable manner was unshakeable throughout the build. His men without exception were courteous and polite to all our family including our pre school children. Their attention to detail and ability to always leave the site tidy and safe at the end of each day meant it was as stress free a conversion as was possible. Ian's quote remained in budget and the end result continues to look as good as it did the day it was finished 3 yrs ago. Our visitors continue to comment on what a fantastic job was made of extending our house. Ian and his family have become and remain good friends.

I have no hesitation in recommending the company to you. Since moving to Glenridding 7 years ago I have been very aware of Ian's reputation as a master builder, as he has undertaken a wide range of public and private building contracts in the local area. He was highly recommended by previous clients and the quality of his work was very apparent. Read more...
